Canadian mixed martial artist Georges St. Pierre will do battle against British brawler Dan Hardy at UFC 111 on March 27th. The event will take place in New Jersey, America, in front of a sold out crowd. GSP puts his UFC Welterweight belt on the line - his fourth title defense - against fast talking and fast striking Dan Hardy. Since regaining his crown in 2008 against Matt Serra, St. Pierre has been unstoppable, dominating and demolishing his oppenents at will. Hardy comes into the title fight off the back of an impressive win over fellow contender Mike Swick. That night, Hardy used his superior striking to keep the long armed American at distance, catching him with big shots, and reallly should have finished the fight. GSP is one of the worlds elite - arguably the best pound for pound fighter in the world - but has been knocked out before and has a questionable chin. If Hardy can defend takedowns successfully and keep the fight standing up, then I wouldn’t bet against Hardy landing one of those trademark punches. GSP, though is likely to use his unparalleled wrestling skills to take the fight wherever he wants. We’ve seen GSP destroy Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert BJ Penn on the ground before and Hardy is not even close to Penn’s standard. There’s no doubt that Hardy has a chance, after all it only takes one lucky punch to end a contest, but I just don’t think he has the skill to match GSP. Some may argue that St. Pierre is more of an athlete than a fighter. But when he steps into the Octagon on March 27th, Hardy won’t be able to cope. Put you’re money on a GSP win - either by TKO or Knockout in the 2nd round. Also on the main card is a battle between submission specialist Frank Mir and heavy handed Shane Carwin for the Interim Heavyweight Championship. After Mir’s ruthless victory over Cheick Kongo - in which the Frenchman went to sleep after refusing to tap - I’m going for another submission win for the ever improving Mir. In another Welterweight contest, John Fitch and Thiago Alves look to do battle again after Fitch knocked out his opponent with a thundering up kick in their last fight. The winner of this bout could seal a Welterweight title shot against either GSP or Hardy. But remember, both have lost to Pierre in the past. We last saw Alves losing at UFC 100 to that very man and the Brazilian pitbull will be looking to put that right with an comprehensive win. Fitch, though is a real tough cookie and will hope for an early finish after his last three wins have come via unanimimous decision. Expect this to go all three rounds, where Alves will pick up a split decision victory. In the third Welterweight contest of the night, Ben Saunders takes on Jake Ellenberger in what should be an exciting fight. Saunders KO’d his last opponent Marcus Davis with a vicious knee - and Ellenberger stopped Mike Pyle in his last UFC outing. This will be a close fight, but I give the edge to the dangerous Saunders. With one title on the line and another up for grabs UFC 111 should be a night to remember. The review of the event will be posted on March 28th
